Success Story Emmi Group
When quality begins even before the refridgerated aisles
High equipment availability doesn’t start in production – it starts with the data. After all, if spare parts aren’t clearly described, are difficult to locate, or appear multiple times in the system, it creates extra work for maintenance, purchasing, and procurement.
This was the situation facing the Emmi Group. With numerous production sites and complex technical systems, a reliable supply of spare parts is a critical part of day-to-day operations. Over the years, more than 126,000 materials had been entered into SAP – with varying names, structures, and duplicate entries.
Together with D&TS, Emmi therefore launched a comprehensive master data project. The existing spare parts and materials master data were analyzed, harmonized, and classified according to ECLASS Basic. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying duplicates and end-of-life parts, as well as on establishing a uniform structure for the future use of the data.
However, a one-time data cleanup alone is not enough. That is why ClassCOCKPIT was also used to create a data governance structure that helps Emmi maintain the achieved data quality over the long term. New material requests can be reviewed in a structured manner, existing spare parts can be searched for across systems, and potential duplicates can be identified even before a new entry is created.
As part of the project, approximately 7,200 duplicates were eliminated, and the material master data set was reduced by about 10%. At the same time, a more transparent and reliable foundation for spare parts management was established.
To learn exactly how Emmi went about this, how the SAP landscape was integrated, and what role ECLASS and ClassCOCKPIT play in the new material creation process, read the full success story.
