Find and reuse components with high data quality

Even though master data is becoming increasingly important as a result of digitalization, companies still consider it and its maintenance as an annoying obligation that needs to be handled. As an engineer, you should actually be focusing entirely on developing innovative products, but instead your day-to-day work probably consists primarily of dispensable activities, such as creating master data and searching for existing components. Data creation and search are not only an extreme annoyance, it also requires considerable time and financial resources.

With our MDM Excellence Workshop for Engineering, we will provide you with an overview of the value and potential of your master data and show your future perspectives. In this workshop, you will learn how to reduce your search times and reduce your engineering and procurement costs by reusing components.

Your challenges! Our solutions!

Many engineering departments face the same challenges in optimizing the quality of their material and product master data. Which ones are you facing?

Challenge 1:

Difficult component search

Different employees have different views of naming materials or entering master data. Individual or inadequate naming and spelling errors can occur. In addition, there is no classification system that clearly assigns and describes the materials. If neither is available, this makes the parts search much more difficult.

Solution 1:

Classification and MDM solutions

A data classification (such as ECLASS) allows you to keep your data in order, to identify duplicates and to find components faster. Modern MDM solutions such as parts management systems and product databases provide optimal data quality from manufacturer catalogs and can create your data with exact designations and information in the system.

Challenge 2:

Too much variety of parts and variances

A search for parts is unsuccessful and components are redesigned rather than reused. Thus, thousands of hours are spent each year on work that doesn’t make a positive contribution to added value. Additionally, each newly introduced component generates enormous extra costs. Systems are full of duplicates and outdated parts.

Solution 2:

Reuse of components

Using a comparison based on 3D models and other metadata, parts that have already been used can be found again quickly and easily. By making small modifications to the components, they can be used again. No additional costs occur for recreating or reconstructing them.

Challenge 3:

Unstructured data sources

The information on your products is unstructured in your company. The constant search, collection, and management of this important data can lead to increased efforts and costs. Sources of errors arise in business processes, which may lead to strategically incorrect decisions and orders.

Solution 3:

Single Point of Truth

To optimize your product data quality, you should combine all important product information from your heterogeneous data sources into a single point of truth. It forms the basis for your leading systems (PLM, ERP, CAD).

The goal of our MDM Excellence Workshops for Engineering

Together with you, we will create a department-specific understanding of the MDM challenges ahead.

Based on the status quo (ACTUAL analysis), we will develop, together, strategies and specific measures for your master data management project considering your goals and our experience. In our workshop, we will provide you with the right tools to minimize your variety of parts, accelerate operational processes and realize significant cost savings.

Workshop content

  • Data analysis
  • Identification of duplicates based on textual similarities
  • Perfect data quality for CAD (MCAT/ECAT), PLM and ERP
  • Establishment of a classification (ECLASS, ETIM, UNSPSC etc.)
  • Establishment of a classification for engineered parts (“drawing parts”) based on 3D CAD models
  • Strategic parts management: Reusing parts instead of creating new parts
  • Data governance: Clear rules for processes and organization
  • Creation and modification of materials made easy
  • Best practice examples
